Giving Experiences vs. Gifts: Which is More Valuable?

For the many who participate, it’s a time filled with an array of emotions such as being happy and in the moment, stressed/overwhelmed about money, and getting into the holiday spirit. Our society is quite driven on the idea that we MUST get our friends/family boxes worth of materialistic goods once a year and then try to find places for them after the holiday.🎁

How about we flip the script for a moment?! This is what I mean…

Instead of purchasing something a person may use once or twice, how about a gift that can be remembered and placed in your memory bank. It might not be as glamorous as opening up a present to find a shiny new toy, BUT the gift of an experience is so much more valuable (at least in my eyes. 😊)

The moment you stop filling your home with so many “things”, you will realize that you actually do have the funds to create more memories with the ones you love.

Examples of gifts could include:

  • Fine Dining🍴
  • Day/Night at the MoviesπŸŽ₯
  • Coffee Dateβ˜•
  • Concert Tickets/ Live Shows at your local Playhouse🎫🎭
  • Weekend Getaway🚘
  • Bowling Night🎳

Honestly, I could keep adding to this list — There are endless ideas for creating the perfect “gift”.😍

    Memories of time together can only be augmented with more memories of more time together. I miss my children and all the times we shared, but this year we will all be reunited. Best part… No one but me and my wife knows that my son is coming for Christmas. I agree with your post!

    A store bought present rarely has memories… the person that receives the present usually is thinking of the person that gave the present… “that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” πŸ™‚

    The best gift is one of love and togetherness, living life hand in hand… πŸ™‚
